Dr. Trotter is a Diplomate with the American Board of Orthodontics. He became Board certified (a 7-10 year process) in February of 2005 acquiring a non-time-limited certificate.
Dr. Trotter has been a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics since 2005. Its membership is only open to active Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics.
The College is a society dedicated to the improvement of orthodontics in education, ethics, responsibility, and competence in practice.
The purpose of the CDABO is to encourage, support and facilitate the process of board certification for orthodontists. The CDABO also sponsors continuing education and lectures for its members.
Dr. Trotter became the Secretary-Treasurer of the California Association of Orthodontists in 2006. He then went on to serve the Association as President-Elect in 2007, and President in 2008. He concluded his service to the Executive Board of the CAO in 2009 as Immediate-Past President. Dr. Trotter was on the Board of Directors of the CAO for 12 years (1999-2011). The CAO represents the approximately 1600 orthodontists in California. The CAO is a constituent of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (PCSO), which is a component of the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO).
Dr. Trotter has served as a Director on the Board of Directors of the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists (a component of the American Association of Orthodontists) since 2005.
Dr. Trotter has been a member of the American Association of Orthodontists since 1991.
World Federation of Orthodontists
Dr. Trotter has been a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Graduate Orthodontic Department in the USC School of Dentistry, Division of Craniofacial Sciences and Therapeutics since 2005. Previously, he was an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Undergraduate Orthodontic Department (1994-1999) and the Undergraduate Periodontic Department (1991-1994).

To make sure that he keeps up with the latest trends, not only in Orthodontics, but also in Dentistry, Dr. Trotter has joined a group of other local General Dentists, and Dental Specialists in the Spear Study Club. Spear is the leading provider of dental continuing education for clinical expertise and practice growth.
Dr. Trotter serves the California Dental Association, yearly, as a Host at the Annual Scientific Session in Anaheim.
